12/10/11 Fishing Report – by Capt. John Irwin

fishing charters, folly beach, fly right charters, redfish, spottail

Fishing has been nothing short of amazing lately. The weather has been excellent, and the reds have been on fire. They are bunching up good and they are still feeding very well. The standard bait approach, corks with mud minnows or mullet and crab on the bottom has been working well. Its also a great time of year for plastics and flies. I have been using a lot of jigs and weedless style baits. Throwing into large schools of fish this time of year is always awesome. There’s nothing like seeing a big red come up and smash a bait you just threw before you can even get the bail turned over. The water is getting to that super clear state and will remain that way for sometime. I fish mostly dark colors this time of year, rootbeer, golden bream, and black over gold are some of my favorites. Winter is always an great time for sight fishing here in the lowcountry.
