BP Oil Spill closure map

NOAA is extending the northwestern fishery closure boundary to encompass the actual and projected path of oil outside the existing boundary.  The northwestern edge is now located about 17 miles east of the Louisiana-Texas boarder.  The new closure map is attached.  The new closure will become effective at 6 PM Eastern Time tonight.  The new closure measures 84,101 sq mi (217,821 sq km) and covers about 35% of the GOM EEZ, compared to the July 4 closure which comprised about 34% of the GOM EEZ.
