Went out today to catch the mid-outgoing through low tide. I was targeting oyster bars and other various structure. The fish were falling off their high-tide homes in the flats and staged on these structures for the outgoing tide. The weather got a little windy and overcast, but that did not hinder the bite. The first redfish was caught as I slowly worked the Big Bite Baits 4 inch paddle tail jerk minnow on a gamakatsu weighted hook with the current around the oyster bar. I hopped it a couple of times and then a pause…..BAM!, I hooked up. The fight lasted about a minute until the redfish ran out of steam and came to the boat. I threw back in the same spot, BAM!, Again another hook up. About five casts later I hooked up again working the bait the same way. After the bite subsided at that spot, I ran over to some rocky structure off the main waterway. I started working the Nemire Lures Red Ripper spoon over the structure as the current was ripping. I was hopping the lure quickly over the rocks, pausing at the top and letting the spoon fall. I got two good sized reds off this technique and both bites came at the pause and fall. At low tide the bite slowed down and I decided to call it a day. The bite was good today, I just hope it stays that way through the weekend as I have a Redfish Tournament this weekend. I will be out the rest of the week and will post more results as I get in.
