Local author Mary Alice Monroe, aka the “turtle lady”, will be coming to the home of the “The Charleston Angler Reel Women Fly Fishing Club” Saturday, August 9th. She will appear at the West Ashley location of The Charleston Angler, 9-11am and in Mt. Pleasant, Towne Centre, 1-3pm for a book signing of her new novel, Time is a River. Monroe is a member of the club and got her start in fly fishing there. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Casting for Recovery, SC/NC.
Time is a River is the story of Mia Landan; a young woman recovering from breast cancer in a mountain cabin near Asheville, NC, when she discovers the journal of a sensational fly fisher of the 1920s, Kate Watkins. The inspiring words of a woman she never knew finally lure Mia from her shell to connect once more with the world around her. As she learns to fish, she uncovers secrets that spans generations–secrets that have the power to change not only her life, but the lives of those in her new community.
It is a USA Today Summer Pick and a Book Sense Pick for July and getting wonderful reviews.
“Time is a River is one of Monroe’s best novels to date and is likely to exceed Monroe’s fans’ expectations,” The News Herald.
